Team vs Player Registration
Tournaments support two registration models - per-team and per-player. Per-team registration is ideal when a captain pays the full team fee up front and handles collecting from their roster. Per-player registration is ideal for open tournaments where individual players sign up and are grouped later. You can use either model, or combine them (e.g., team fee + per-player add-ons like merchandise).
When to use it
- Club-style tournaments where teams pay one flat fee
- Open tournaments that build teams from individual signups
- Free registration for school intramurals
- Hybrid events with a team fee plus optional player merch
What you get
- Per-team fee with team name, captain info, and player roster
- Per-player fee with individual checkout and team assignment
- Captain invite links to pass along to teammates
- Optional merchandise add-ons at checkout (t-shirts, jerseys, water bottles)
- Stripe-powered checkout with saved cards and Apple Pay / Google Pay
- Automatic confirmation emails for both captains and players
- Waitlist support when divisions fill up
Setup
- In the tournament wizard, open the Registration step
- Choose Per-Team, Per-Player, or Both
- Set the team fee and/or player fee in dollars
- Define divisions (e.g., Men's A, Coed B) so teams/players can pick one at signup
- Optionally add merchandise items with their own prices and inventory
- Set a registration deadline and team/player cap if needed
- Publish - share the public tournament link so people can register
Tips
- Per-team pricing is simpler for most tournaments and leads to faster signups
- Use per-player pricing only if you're genuinely building teams from scratch - it creates more admin work
- Keep division names short and obvious (Men's A, Coed B, 12U Girls) so participants pick the right one
- Pre-fill a waiver checkbox as a custom field if your venue requires one
- Monitor registrations in the Teams tab and nudge captains if their rosters are incomplete
