Ask families about an unaccounted absence
When a student is marked absent and the school has not heard from home, the family gets asked. It happens on its own after a short wait, and you can also do it right away.
Steps
- Go to Front office. On This morning, find the student in Unaccounted.
- Click Notify family. Every guardian on file for that student gets the message.
- The row now says "family asked". If you still hear nothing, click Ask again.
- When a family answers from their link, the student moves to Out or Late on the board.
Set the wait time
- Go to Front office, then Roster and settings.
- Under School settings, set Minutes after an absence mark before the family is asked. Pick 0 to 60. The default is 10.
- Click Save. Only an owner, an admin, or a Principal can change this.
Good to know
- The message says the child was marked absent and the school has not heard from the family, with a link to their family page.
- It goes by email, and by text to guardians who agreed to texts. Email costs 1 credit and a text costs 3 credits.
- The automatic ask goes out once per absence. A run that is still open when the school day ends closes on its own.
- Notify family is grayed out when the student has no guardian on file.
- The Run trail on the board shows each step and when it happened.
