Messaging & Notifications

Every event can send automatic reminders by email (via Resend) and SMS (via Mobile Text Alerts). Beyond reminders, SignUpGo also handles onboarding drip emails for new organizers, engagement reports twice a week, win-back emails for lapsed users, and one-off notifications for things like slot changes or schedule edits.

When to use it

  • Reminding parents 24 hours before their conference slot
  • Sending volunteers a 2-hour SMS before their shift
  • Re-engaging organizers who haven't created an event in 30 days
  • Notifying attendees when a slot time or location changes
  • Delivering tournament match reminders and score alerts

What you get

  • Per-event email and SMS reminder toggles with configurable lead time
  • Hourly reminder cron batches up notifications and logs delivery
  • Monthly-resetting SMS credit allowance per plan tier
  • Earn bonus SMS credits by completing onboarding tasks
  • SMS opt-in defaults respected (never sent to unsubscribed numbers)
  • Onboarding email drip for new organizers
  • Engagement reports emailed Mon + Thu mornings
  • Win-back emails to lapsed organizers after inactivity

Setup

  1. In the event wizard, open the Reminders step
  2. Enable email reminders and set when to send (24h / 2h / custom)
  3. If you want SMS, toggle it on and make sure you have credits in Settings > Messaging
  4. Verify your roster has valid email addresses and phone numbers
  5. Publish - reminders are queued automatically based on slot times
  6. Check the delivery log in Settings > Messaging to confirm sends

Tips

  • Timed slots: email ~24h before, SMS ~2h before. Potlucks/item lists: both the day before your event date
  • Only SMS captains or primary contacts for tournaments - otherwise credits burn fast
  • If SMS opt-in is off by default in your org, you won't send to anyone without consent
  • Win-back emails are automatic - you don't have to do anything for lapsed accounts
  • Engagement reports to you include stats on sign-up pace - great for boosting slow events
