Running a Field Hockey Tournament: The Travel Club Guide

Field hockey is a 2-turf, 3-turf, or 4-turf tournament in most travel clubs. Short halves (25 minutes), quick turnovers, and specialized officials make the scheduler's job harder than it looks.

Turf scheduling

Short games let you schedule every 55 minutes. Build buffers for penalty strokes and overtime.

Pool play into bracket

Most events run 4-team pools across the weekend. Top 2 advance to championship, bottom 2 to consolation, every team plays 5 games.

USA Field Hockey officials are limited. Lock your crew before you publish the schedule - they drive the whole weekend.
