Club Volleyball Tournament Directors: The 2026 Operations Playbook
The operations playbook for USA Volleyball and Junior National qualifying tournament directors - pools, brackets, officials, and parent SMS.
Running a USAV, AES, or JNQ volleyball tournament is its own profession. You've got 80-120 teams, 20+ courts, 600+ matches over three days, and a referee pool that has to eat and sleep between matches. Here's the playbook directors use.
Team registration flow
Club directors register entire clubs, not individual teams. Your platform needs to handle bulk team entry with per-team rosters, division tagging (15-2, 16-1, 17-Open), and entry fee collection at the club level.
Pool play geometry
- 4-team pools on one court are the USAV standard
- Work the court - avoid cross-gym travel mid-day
- Schedule so each pool finishes within 3 hours
- Build in a 30-minute break before bracket play
Officials workload
Every match needs an R1, R2, line judges, and scorekeeper. Most clubs supply their own refs (work-team format). Your platform should auto-assign work teams based on finish order so nobody forgets.
Bracket progression
Gold bracket for pool winners, silver for pool runners-up, bronze for third place. Auto-seed all three from pool standings in one click. Parents get SMS the moment the brackets post.
